Geography scence courses for teachers and subject leads – STEM CPD LIVE* Remote delivery science courses.

The following packages provide opportunities to network and learn with colleagues in the same role in other schools. The sessions are aimed at subject leaders and other key school staff. Each session is professionally facilitated by STEM consultants.

Learn how to avoid ‘…reducing places to disconnected lists of facts.’ Ofsted Sept 2023.

The session will consider how to approach a deeper study of place to provide pupils with opportunities to interpret a range of sources, go beyond being able to just identify and locate places on a map and avoid the dangers of a studying a single story.

Learn how to support pupils to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to find out more about the geographical processes, events and issues of the world. As geographers they need to be able to think and communicate geographically, to explore, investigate and analyse data from a range of sources and presented from an array of perspectives.

Learn about fieldwork as a vital component of the geography curriculum which enables pupils to investigate place and space, bringing class-based learning to life and providing concrete examples for use as points of reference in the future. The session will introduce some techniques to support pupils to make multi-sensory observations and measurements.

Learn about the dynamic elements of geography across time and space. Everything in the world changes. Living things grow and landscapes are transformed over time. People, their communities and the places they live in are also subject to change. These changes – especially when they imply an improvement in people’s lives and the places around them – are what we usually mean by ‘development’.

Learn about the importance of energy: all living organisms need energy to survive. The session will provide the background information for teaching about the different types of energy, where they come from, and the differences between renewable and non-renewable sources of energy.

Learn about the diverse range of human and physical processes that exist in coastal environments from the destructive power of storm surges to the bucolic settlements tucked away in tranquil bays. Our home, the UK is an island nation which can be measured at nearly 20,000 miles in length and will provide the focus for this session.

Integrating Climate Change into the Curriculum

Climate change is among the greatest threats and challenges of our time. From scientific analysis and technology to global political debate, tackling climate change requires a multi-disciplinary approach and encompasses a wide range of topics. During this course, you will learn about the science behind climate change, the strategies that are being employed to tackle the problem and explore creative ways to integrate this topic into the secondary curriculum.
