The following packages provide opportunities to network and learn with colleagues in the same role in other schools. The sessions are aimed at subject leaders and other key school staff. Each session is professionally facilitated by STEM consultants.

Working with higher attaining students

The aim of this CPD is to focus on those skills within all specifications which are specifically targeted at higher attaining students and consider how those skills can be successfully taught within the curriculum structure.

Bursary

Secondary Chemistry Subject Knowledge Enhancement

in conjunction with Derby Research School

This third session will focus on Chemistry, looking at common topics which span the gap from primary (KS2) to secondary (KS3).  There will be an emphasis on Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) for those who might be looking to improve their understanding in this particular area of science, those new to teaching science, or more experienced teachers interested in the development of learning between key stages.

Practical Chemistry for Technicians

This course has been designed to give an overview of the needs and roles of a technicians supporting chemistry practical’s in a secondary school. We will explore chemical handling, storage, disposal, health ands safety, making up solutions and gases and have a look t through lives demonstrations of some innovative chemistry practical’s to include in your departments schemes of work.

Health and Safety for Technicians

This course will cover the basics of health and safety knowledge needed to ensure yourself and your department  are working safely in science education. We will explore common Health and Safety issues, responsibilities, training, emergency measures, systems, security and risk assessments for teacher and technician activities.

Organising a prep room

Are you a senior technician or a lone technicians running a prep room in your school or college/ If you are then this course can help you make sure you are providing an efficient practical service to students in your institution. We will explore, procedures and systems, security, maintenance and checks, time management and storage in this three hour course.
