Project ENTHUSE is a funding partnership that was launched in 2008 with £27 million from the Wellcome Trust, the Department for Education, AstraZeneca, AstraZeneca Science Teaching Trust(renamed Primary Science Teaching Trust in 2013), BAE Systems, BP,General Electric Foundation, GlaxoSmithKline, Rolls-Royce, Vodafone and Vodafone Group Foundation.
In 2013/14 Project ENTHUSE received further funding of over £22 million from the Department for Education, the Wellcome Trust, BAE Systems, Biochemical Society, BP, Institution of Engineering and Technology,Institution of Mechanical Engineers,Rolls-Royce, Royal Commission for the 1851 Exhibition, IBM, Institution of Structural Engineers and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
These organisations came together to bring about inspired science teaching through the continuing professional development of teachers of science across the UK. Project ENTHUSE funding allows the provision of subject specific CPD for teachers, technicians and other support staff at the National STEM Learning Centre in York and through partners in Northern Ireland (Department of Education Northern Ireland), Scotland (SSERC) and Wales (Techniquest).
Project ENTHUSE is made up of a number of distinct and complementary areas and they are working with the ENTHUSE Partnerships
enabling groups of 6-8 schools and colleges to work collaboratively to improving teaching and learning in science.

Teacher Subject Specialism Training (TSST) – Physics, Year Two
Free Teacher subject Specialism Training for non-specialist teachers who have not completed Physics as part of their Initial Teacher Training. This programme is funded through the National College of Teaching & Leadership (NCTL). Each session was facilitated by a Physics specialist focussing on different topics each session, specialising in practical ideas and activities, as well as pedagogical approaches, tips and strategies for successful learning.

Free Teacher subject Specialism Training for non-specialist teachers who have not completed Physics as part of their Initial Teacher Training. STEM Learning – Triple Science Cohort Three
Triple Science support helps schools, managers and teachers plan, develop and deliver Triple Science GCSEs. The programme offers training, consultancy, networking, resources and publications. Cohort Three is a two year programme that involves Lees Brook, Eckington, Tupton Hall, Chellaston Academy, Murray Park and Derby Moor Academy.
STEM Learning – Triple Science Cohort Four
Triple Science support helps schools, managers and teachers plan, develop and deliver Triple Science GCSEs. The programme offers training, consultancy, networking, resources and publications. Cohort Four is a one year programme that involves Heanor Gate, Netherthorpe, John Port Spencer Academy, Ormiston Ilkeston Enterprise Academy, Tibshelf and Shirebrook.
ACCELERATE is designed for teachers in the first five years of their career which aims to encourage teacher retention and drive pupil attainment. The Department for Education’s Teaching and Leadership Innovation Fund has fully funded the programme and it is run by Education Development Trust in collaboration with the Chartered College of Teaching.
Funded by the Department for Education’s Teaching and Leadership Innovation Fund, Aspire to STEM enables target schools and colleges across England to access free CPD and support.
This will:
Schools work with a dedicated STEM Learning mentor to create a bespoke, flexible and focused selection of free CPD and inspiration support for the teachers and leaders in their school and partnership. This will be based on the results of an initial needs analysis to ensure the CPD offered addresses the unique challenges and needs of those individual teachers and leaders.
Schools will work with us as part of the programme for up to two years, with support given throughout to ensure the positive impact on teachers, leaders and students is long-term and sustainable. Current schools: Bemrose, City Of Derby Academy, St Benedicts and Merrill Academy.
