Primary STEM CPD, delivered in Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire, Leicester, Leicestershire & Northants: Courses for teachers in Science, Maths, Geology and Earth Sciences and Design & Technology.
The following packages provide opportunities to network and learn with colleagues in the same role in other schools. The sessions are aimed at subject leaders and other key school staff. Each session is professionally facilitated by STEM consultants.
“Subject-specific CPD is important for all science teachers and teaching assistants. But it is especially important for non-specialist primary teachers. This is because estimates suggest that just 5% of primary school teachers hold specialised science degrees and teaching qualifications in science. This means that some do not feel confident in teaching science.”
Ofsted subject review for science, published 29th April 2021
"Thank you so much for the CPD session yesterday morning, it was excellent. It was my first time at the cluster meetings but certainly won't be my last! I'll be telling all our cluster leads all about it! We would also love to have you come in and deliver some CPD to us, if this would be possible!"
Year 5 teacher, Derbyshire Primary School
"Thank you again for facilitating the meeting this afternoon. Just like last time, I found it hugely beneficial. The wealth of information and resources you shared was fantastic!"
Year 6 teacher, Derbyshire Primary School

With the recent Ofsted Science report and all that it highlights as areas of strength but also areas for development, the Summer Science Subject Leader Network meetings will have a focus on trying to support leaders to develop the skills required in the disciplinary area of the science curriculum. Using this quote from the Ofsted document as a starting point;
‘Leaders’ plans to develop pupils’ disciplinary knowledge were usually much less developed than their plans to develop pupils’ substantive knowledge. In general, not enough consideration was given to identifying the disciplinary knowledge, including concepts, that are needed to work scientifically. This limited how effectively leaders could plan a curriculum for pupils to get better at working scientifically over time.’
We will consider and use a variety of resources to develop this area of the curriculum for our schools.
