Online Secondary Science Technicians Courses and network meetings. The following packages provide opportunities to network and learn with colleagues in the same role in other schools. The sessions are aimed at subject leaders and other key school staff. Each session is professionally facilitated by STEM consultants.

East Midlands Technicians Autumn Network

With recent changes to the science curriculum now embedded in most schools and colleges, challenges still remain in maximising the enjoyment, engagement and success of learners. This course recognises the pivotal role that technical support staff play and provides the opportunity to meet, discuss and share good practice for technicians from Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire schools only.

Health & Safety for Technicians & Teachers

This course will cover the basics of health and safety knowledge needed to ensure yourself and your department  are working safely in science education. We will explore common Health and Safety issues, responsibilities, training, emergency measures, systems, security and risk assessments for teacher and technician activities.

Technicians Supporting Chemistry

This course has been designed to give an overview of the needs and roles of a technicians supporting chemistry practical’s in a secondary school. We will explore chemical handling, storage, disposal, health ands safety, making up solutions and gases and have a look t through lives demonstrations of some innovative chemistry practical’s to include in your departments schemes of work.

Technicians Supporting Biology

This practical biology course will explore a range of biology topics and the practicals that can help support students’ learning. Covering such topics as plants, microscopy, enzymes, cells, microbiology, photosynthesis, transpiration, enzymes and molecular biology. There will be a mixture of live demonstrations, exploring resources and discussions on all these topics, to help you prepare biology practicals that will engage and more importantly work in the classroom! We will cover where to course, how to prep and how to ensure success in biology practical work?

Are you a science technician or new science teacher that wants to improve your demonstration techniques in the classroom? If so this course will help you understand what makes a science demonstration effective, how to enhance the learning potential of a demonstration, think about what students are learning and how to engage them, health and safety and develop your repertoire of demonstrations
