DTSA Headteacher Triads: Peer School Review Package

There have been significant benefits for schools where they join with two others to undertake peer reviews. The DTSA model is based on mutual support with headteachers committing around 4 days over the year to the process. The course has shown that in addition to producing very useful outcomes for the school being reviewed there is a high level of professional development for all the headteachers involved whatever their level of experience.

The process is not an ‘inspection’ but is rigorous and quality assured. It requires the headteachers involved to attend a training session and then work with two other headteachers. Each school in the triad is peer reviewed for a day by the other two colleagues and this is repeated each term allowing all three schools to have a detailed peer review over the year. This is very much a ‘done with’ process rather than a ‘done to’ approach and each review is based around key areas identified by the school being reviewed. Triads are formed by DTSA following discussion and mutual agreement.

Headteacher Induction Package

The DTSA Headteacher Induction Programme provides two days’ time from an NLE or LLE acting as mentor/coach with the time to be used as agreed (please see the list of DTSA NLEs and LLEs in School to School Support).

The time will include an initial visit from the NLE or LLE and there will be regular telephone support. This will give all new heads a chance to learn about local networks and partnerships that new colleagues may find useful as well as an insight into local and regional issues schools are facing in these changing times.

School Business Leaders

Our School Business Leaders network offered in partnership with our colleagues at Flint Bishop Education is well attended with great feedback. The meetings are professionally facilitated by Sandra Fletcher and include a national update and a chance to hear from a range of companies developing new ways of working.

An important part of the meeting is the chance for SBLs to identify the issues that they wish to discuss and future agendas are built around their needs. It is also a great opportunity to share good practice and where SBLs are new to post there is also an opportunity to be paired with an experienced SBL for mentoring support.
