ECT Courses

ECT Courses for NQT / RQT. The following courses are aimed at early career teachers and provide opportunities to network and learn with colleagues in the same role in other primary schools.

Sessions are professionally facilitated by consultants and headteachers with resources to be discussed and shared. Previous consultants have included Jason Bangbala, Andy Meller and Jonathan Lear.

This ECT programme complements the fully funded Early Career Framework programme that DTSA are delivering in conjunction with the Education Development Trust. Please contact us by September to be registered for the available ECF funded places.

Early Career Teacher (ECT) Network for Teachers with 1-3 years experience

ECS network. These guided network meetings complement the ELC framework programme by providing science specific CPD for teachers in their first years of teaching. The networks will be led by an experienced consultant who has a long history of teaching science and working with ECS teachers. The content of the network will be decided in consultation with attendees but possible topics include behaviour management, SEND, tricky topics, practical work and managing workload.

Session 6

Practical Solutions To Every Day Pupil Behaviours with Jason Bangbala

The bottom line is that pupil behaviour in schools is a concern. In the report by Dr Joanna Williams, It Just Grinds You Down, it stated that:

  • 75% teachers said they had  to deal frequently with low level disruption in their lessons
  • 72% teachers knew a colleague that had left the profession due to poor pupil behaviour

These findings supported OFSTED’s previous observations which stated that:

  • Pupils lose at least 1 hour a day and 38 days within the academic year due to disruption in lessons
  • Having a calm and orderly environment in some classes in some schools was a lottery

During this interactive, down to earth and realistic ‘warts and all’ session, delegates will be provided with bespoke, specific, practical strategies that they can put back into their teaching the very next day.

These strategies will enable delegates to de-escalate and diffuse any inappropriate behaviour quickly, effectively and non-confrontationally. The practical strategies will also enable delegates to prevent any inappropriate behaviour to occur in the first place and create a positive climate for learning.

Jason Bangbala has worked in nearly every educational setting involving young people from prisons, to primary schools to the football Premier League. The session is therefore appropriate for all teachers working with pupils of all ages and in all educational settings.
